March 28th, 2005 in News, General.

After quite a while, people on the MPI mailing list agreed with me and we have an MPI Wiki! It just started, but we should have some intersting articles in a few days. You can find it at: http://www.mpi-comm-world.org/

Cluster Run

The cluster is running my old mpi-prime code (download Here) to get it all tested and working nicely. You can view the bandiwdth graphs at http://www.crepinc.com/cluster/. You can see the nice bandwidth spike, then the inverse exponential curve as the bandwidth decreases because it takes longer to find each number and request a new […]

CAD is cool

I found this great site that gives you CAD software, AND makes the piece for you. Check out http://emachineshop.com. I was able to make the thing below in one evening. There is a catch though… The thing below would be about $100 to have made. However, the more you order, the less the price is.

CFD Page

I’ve got enough images from these cluster runs now that I made a page for them. (There are new ones!) On the right side, click “CFD” under “Projects”

I found a static buffer overflow today in Windows 2000. It (as far as I can tell) does NOT lead to code execution, due to null charactors inserted between that chars of the exploit string. I posted this information to bugtraq. You can read my post HERE.

Last Tuesday I was at a robotics meeting/competition. We did the average “table-top” game: keep your bot on the table the longest. If you hit an object, you loose points, and you gain points my going over a black line.

Another thing I got running was PovRay!

PovRay is a “ray tracing engine”. Basically, it takes 3-D objects, and displays them 2-D by shading certain regions, calculated by where the “light source” and the “camera” are. This is a very math intensive process, so spreading it out over many computers makes it run much faster.

Da Network

Sure, I may not have the coolest network, but it runs! I made some pretty graphs of what it is now, and what I want it to be…

The Trebuchet

September 23rd, 2004 in Projects, General.

After returning from Europe, I decided that medieval siege weapons were much cooler than those of today. A friend and I had previously built a (sort of) working trebuchet, but we could only launch one brick about 5 feet before the thing colapsed upon itself. However, with a new found interest, and a book of […]

The Cluster

September 23rd, 2004 in General.

I had a whole lot of old computers in my basement. They were cool, but not real efficiet at doing anything. So my friend Mike Luther says, and I quote, “Beowulf!!!”. It’s all history from there.
Note: this article is outdated, though much of the information is still valid. I grew the cluster to 16 nodes […]

I just decided to screw testing, let’s go live! So here’s the new design, etc using wordpress and the kubrick template for it. If you find anything that doesn’t work, please let me know, either through the forums, email, or replying to this post.
Hope you like it!
