Here is the repository of information about me, and the things I own and do.

The link “About Jack” to the right provides information about myself.

My Computers

Currently Running:

  • audrey.crepinc.com: Linux 2.6.22, provides most of the services for our intranet and such.
  • abby.crepinc.com: Windows XP and Linux kernel 2.6.21. Thinkpad T60, Dual-Core 2Ghz, 2 GB ram, 80 GB disk, 1000 Mb/s link. 3 monitors, main workstation.
  • ally.crepinc.com: Linux 2.6.22, secondary name services and a few other things for the intranet, networking.
  • amanda.crepinc.com: Linux 2.6.22 SGI 1400 with 500 gig disks, a gig fiber link and a 500 meg copper trunk to the switch.
  • dunce.crepinc.com: FreeBSD router for our VPN tunnels.
  • A few sparc boxes doing random things.
  • Two Cisco 2500s and a managed switch for routing / intranet.
  • My Electrical Engineering Things

The best way to describe this is a picture: my old room (click for larger view).

    My Room

The computers (see above) occupy the desk completely. Above that is the oscilloscope I got on eBay for $80. It’s dual trace 20 Mhz, pretty dirty and a little ghetto. But for the most part it works besides the V/Div knob broken on the second channel. It is my life.

My bed is the staging area for parts. While I’m working on projects, I tend to sleep at friends houses since I cannot find my bed under all the parts. I have quite a supply of 7400 series logic, plus general microcontrollers you find around, a bunch of caps and resistors, wire, stepper motors, scrap aluminum, PCB boards, etc.

To the right of the desk (not in view) is my pile of things to take apart for components (I’m cheap, what can I say?) When the pile gets up to the desk, I solder for a night and it goes down again.

My capacitors: I have several very large capacitors that my friends and I use to melt peices of metal for fun (sublimating aluminium cans is fun…) I have: 16x 400v 8000 uf, 8x 150v 15000 uf, plus 64 camera flash caps. When we put all these together we can go to about 3.8 kJ at 300v. It’s louder than a gunshot, and wicked bright. I also have a stack of variously valued coffe-can size caps.
Things I’d like to get: a lab power supply, a function generator, a not-ghetto (digital?) oscilloscope.

    My Machine Tools

I have (at school with me) my drill press and CNC Mill (which can also be operated manually). These migrate between the shop and my apartment. I work in the school shops now and have keys, so I tend to be there late at night machining parts as well.
